This vocational training course lasts two to three years depending on the applicant’s prior qualifications.

On 1 April 2005, an amended version of the German Vocational Training Act (Berufsbildungsgesetz – BBiG) came into effect. The adoption of section §8 BBiG on the reducing and extending of the duration of vocational training means that the option of part-time vocational training is now firmly anchored in the legislation.

In practice the average working time will be reduced to about five to six hours per day or 25 to 30 hours per week (including the attendance of vocational school). The standard duration of the vocational training remains unchanged. It is however possible to extend the duration of the vocational training if it becomes necessary due to the circumstances. Vocational trainees who opt for the part-time option will receive remuneration proportionate to their working hours. The requirement to attend the vocational school remains unchanged.

Further information on this vocational training option can be found under the “Office Communications Assistant” vocational training course.
